World Standards Day 2015: Standards are the world’s common language

Imagine a world where we could not make or receive phone calls, access the Internet, or use our credit cards around the globe. Without the internationally accepted standards behind telephone codes, technological infrastructure and the financial marketplace, these activities would be almost impossible. In fact, a world without standards would make many of the routine activities we take for granted much more complicated.

On October 14, 2015, the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) joins the international standardization community in celebrating World Standards Day with a theme of “Standards – the world’s common language.”

Standards are part of the essential foundation that supports a country’s economic and social well-being. They help drive business efficiency, enable companies to access markets both regionally and internationally, and can reassure consumers that products are safe, reliable and environmentally sustainable.

Canadians can participate directly in the development of international standards, helping to open doors for business and advancing the health, safety and economic well-being of all Canadians. Find out more and get involved in standardization.
